The mission of Sista Strut is to heighten awareness surrounding the issue of breast cancer in women of color, as well as educate and provide information on community resources. This is a cause very close to Morris Bart’s heart, and as such he’s been a Sista Strut sponsor for over a decade.
The crowds at the 2024 Sista Strut in New Orleans were bigger than ever, with clear blue skies and sunlight bouncing off a sea of pink wigs. This year, employees from Morris Bart arrived at City Park at 7:00 a.m. to begin setting up tents and filling up swag bags with the other sponsors and vendors who helped make the whole event possible.
Did you know:
- African American women are more likely than white women to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 40 and are more likely to be diagnosed with larger tumors.
- African American women in the US have a 41% higher death rate from breast cancer than white women.
- Awareness of these issues will help survival rates with earlier diagnoses.

But Sista Strut isn’t just an event to help inform and educate the community about breast cancer and the resources available to fight it. Sista Strut also recognizes the strength of survivors, their family, and friends, which you can see in the support survivors get during the walk. Folks walk around with “Survivor” sashes and many share stories of how their community has been uplifted by Sista Strut.
