The Houston, Texas based law firm McClenny Moseley & Associates has been featured in news stories and facing legal sanctions after claims of fraudulent activity and deceptive business practices have surfaced in the wake of Hurricanes Ida and Laura. Insurance carriers and attorneys began to take notice of the questionable business practices after duplicate lawsuits were filed between multiple firms and many clients learned MMA had purported to be representing them without their knowledge or consent. In some cases, “clients” of the MMA firm only learned of the deception when banks sent them settlement checks from their insurer with its endorsement.
A 16 page memo filed on February 22nd, 2023 by insurance defense attorney Matthew Monson has outlined the “pre-screening” process that McClenny Moseley & Associates and their lead generation company, Velawcity, utilized to acquire the necessary information to make these claims. Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon, who has already issued a cease-and-desist order to MMA, said in a press release that the law firm’s “illegal insurance scheme is like nothing I’ve seen before.”

In addition to the severe nature of the claims and evidence being levied against McClenny Moseley & Associates, some critics are raising serious concerns regarding the welfare of the Gulf Coast residents being represented by the firm under such dubious circumstances. These concerns are only exacerbated by the volume of cases MMA seems to be attempting to handle, having filed more than 1,600 hurricane claims in the Western District of Louisiana over a four-day period last year. To make matters worse, many of the claims reportedly contained blatant fact errors or were duplicates altogether.
