A woman had to be airlifted to UAB hospital after she sustained serious injuries in a crash at the intersection of Henry Street and West Meighan Boulevard. According to AL.com, Jessica Miller Frazier, 39, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban when she crashed into a box truck that was transporting mail.
The mail truck driver was Arthur Dale Stephens, 72. The crash happened on October 10 just after 7 a.m.
This accident highlights the fact that drivers take a risk every time they hit the road. Although a disproportionately high number of collisions happen at night and over weekends, all it takes is one mistake to turn an early morning commute into a tragedy.
Although no amount of compensation can undo the hardship of serious injuries, victims are often able to recover compensation for medical bills, lost income and other damages by making personal-injury claims. If you were hurt in a car crash in Alabama, a Montgomery accident attorney from Morris Bart & Associates, LLC can evaluate your case to determine if you have grounds for a claim.

Read on to learn four ways to avoid accidents during the early morning rush hour:
Leave Early
According to Drive-Safely.net, leaving early will give you plenty of time to reach your destination. You won’t feel tempted to speed, which was a contributing factor in 28 percent of traffic accident deaths in 2014, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This also prevents you from engaging in reckless behaviors such as weaving through traffic or tailgating.

Take Low-Traffic Routes
The fewer cars there are on the road, the lower your risk of crashing. If your typical path to work is congested, consider taking a scenic route.
Avoid Distractions
Distracted driving causes an alarming number of accidents every year. In 2014, more than 3,170 people died in distracted driving crashes.
It’s no secret that the best way to avoid these collisions is to eliminate distractions from your vehicle: Turn off your cell phone, never eat or drink behind the wheel, and avoid gawking at billboards and crash scenes.
You should also keep your distance from drivers who display signs of distraction such as swerving, abnormal braking and accelerating patterns, looking down as if at a cell phone, or stopping well before or after a stop line.

Maintain a Safe Following Distance
It is never acceptable to tailgate other drivers, but following too closely is particularly dangerous in congested traffic. Even if you are able to stop in time, your abrupt braking may cause the driver behind you to rear-end your vehicle.
As a rule of thumb, you should maintain at least three seconds of following distance when driving on the highway in clear weather. Double that distance to six seconds when driving in adverse conditions.
