Breast cancer is no easy feat, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be conquered. Join the Morris Bart team as we proudly sponsor and participate in the Sista Strut 3k Walk in New Orleans on March 23rd, 8:00 a.m., in Woldenberg Park. The purpose of this walk is to empower and inform African American women about the impact breast cancer has on them.
National Breast Cancer Foundation’s website reads that one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Even more alarming research shows that out of those diagnosed, African American women are 41% more likely to die from the disease than Caucasian women.

While many are aware of the general facts surrounding breast cancer, most do not know that women of color are at a higher risk when it comes to this condition. According to Sista Strut’s website, African American women are more likely than Caucasian women to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 40 and are more likely to be diagnosed with larger tumors.
Sista Strut aims to raise awareness about the issues of breast cancer in women of color. The organization provides information for community resources that assists with this issue, promotes the importance of early detection, and supports the continued fight for a cure.
Get your pink gear ready and come strut with us for this worthy cause! For more information on the walk, visit Sista Strut’s official website.
Reduce the Risk
- Go to the doctor regularly – Regular checkups are key when it comes to catching any ailments early. The earlier you get treated, the more likely you are to defeat it.
- Self-examination – Always monitor your breasts and give yourself self-examinations to make sure everything feels normal. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any abnormal changes in your breast.
- Maintain a healthy weight – Exercising is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Make sure to incorporate some type of workout in your routine daily.
