As part of their ongoing commitment to their community, Morris and Cathy Bart have donated $1 million dollars to the Second Harvest Food Bank, a cornerstone piece of Second Harvest’s ongoing capital campaign to renovate its facilities.
Second Harvest currently serves over 30 million meals a year, but the organization hopes to more than double that figure to address the need for nutritious food across Southern Louisiana.
The Barts $1 million donation will help fund a new volunteer center for the food bank, ensuring the organization can continue to serve residents across 23 Louisiana parishes. Speaking about their donation, Morris Bart said “We believe in the mission of Second Harvest. There is nothing more important than feeding people. I hope that this gift raises awareness of Second Harvest’s impact in New Orleans and across South Louisiana and also encourages others to give and volunteer.”
The Second Harvest Food Bank donation is a part of the Barts’ larger philanthropic efforts over the years, which include charitable contributions to organizations such as the Jewish Community Center, the United Way, the American Red Cross, Loyola University, and Newman School.
