Sista Strut is a national walk to heighten breast cancer awareness in women of color. African American women are more likely to be diagnosed with larger tumors and have a higher death rate from breast cancer in comparison to Caucasian women. Through awareness, we can increase these survival rates by promoting early detection. Early detection includes doing breast self-exams, scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
The 2021 Sista Strut New Orleans walk was postponed this year due to Hurricane Ida. However, our city is born and reborn in hard times and the event was quickly rescheduled. This year there was a fantastic turnout, live music by The Village Brass Band, and so many incredible stories shared.
Morris Bart has been sponsoring this iHeart Media event for the past 8 years. Due to safety precautions for COVID-19, this was our first in-person event in over a year and a half. We are so grateful to be able to support our community through this meaningful cause and want to thank everyone that joined us for the 2021 Sista Strut!
