Now in its 45th year, the Bayou Classic will be held this weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. As one of the most celebrated sports rivalries in HBCU football classics, the clash between the Grambling State University Tigers and the Southern University Jaguars has evolved into a three day series of events that offers fun for everyone.
Here are Bayou Classic 2018 dates and everything you need to know to enjoy this historic event!
Football Is the Heart of the Bayou Classic Event
Although “classic” football games have been taking place between HBCU teams for nearly 100 years the official Bayou Classic is now in its 45th year, making this storied rivalry a tradition for many New Orleans families.
The first Bayou Classic was held at Tulane Stadium in 1974, where it attracted over 76,000 people. The game has been held at the Superdome since 1990 and now regularly brings 250,000 attendees, as well as 4-5 million fans watching from home on the NBC Sports Network.
Although the Grambling State Tigers lead the official series with 23 wins to Southern University’s 21, this narrow lead adds excitement to the ongoing series. The teams compete each year for bragging rights and an impressive trophy, the fourth year this particular trophy has been awarded.
This year the game will take place on Saturday, November 24 with kickoff at 4pm. Bayou Classic 2018 tickets can be purchased online and start at only $16 each for general admission!
