Police Arrest a Legally Blind Woman after She Struck a Cyclist With Her SUV
According to the police, a 36-year-old woman who is legally blind was driving her SUV near an intersection when she veered off the road and struck a man on a bicycle before fleeing the scene. The accident occurred around 3:20 in the afternoon. According to a filed complaint, the woman’s license had been suspended before the accident even occurred.
Police booked her into the Mobile County Metro Jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and on second-degree assault. The cyclist sustained minor injuries.

Officer Tested Positive for Drugs Following a Traffic Accident
Alabama reports on an officer who recently ended his career with the Mobile Police Department after testing positive for drugs following an accident. The officer was driving his city-issued vehicle when he crashed at an intersection late last month. Though nobody sustained injuries in the crash, another officer tested the driver for alcohol and drugs following the crash.
When the drug test came back positive, it prompted an internal investigation of the officer in question. Police have not yet identified which drug or drugs were in his system at the time of the accident. The investigation is currently the third one occurring in MPD’s Internal Affairs office.
Just weeks before the auto accident, a neighboring police department asked MPD for help investigating an officer who had been accused of performing an obstruction of justice. A third ongoing criminal investigation involves an officer accused of using his position for sexual favors.
